Lebanon – Laclede County Library
Lebanon’s public library is a beautiful and well equipped facility that will serve almost all of your information needs. Combine this with three spacious community rooms, several quiet study rooms, a restaurant and even a historic “Route 66” museum, and you have a fantastic resource for the whole family.
The Lebanon Library is a fairly new facility designed from the ground up to function as a community service center. Easily accessible for handicap individuals, this library houses a genealogy room, video and audio library, a special children’s area and free access to computers and of course a very large selection of books and other reference materials.
The large “Media Room” contains a giant selection of audio books with the emphasis on contemporary fiction. The video section has an emphasis on classic movies, children’s classics, and documentaries. There is also a large collection of self-help, conservation, and historical movies. The CD collection covers country western to classical music and even includes holiday music.
The Lebanon – Laclede Library also hosts a wide array of events and programs for individuals of all ages.
For Children there are special story times and weekly events all summer long. Many of these events include performers and speakers from all around the country. Children can participate in the summer weekly program where prizes are awarded for reading a certain number of books.
For Adults there are special book clubs and other events scheduled throughout the year.
For Teachers the Library offers a number of in-house resources as well as online resources. Most of the resources are free. This includes research databases as well as locations for downloading free lesson plans.
For the Community the Lebanon Library also has an outreach department that provides special programs and books for daycares, residential care centers, and schools. You can even access their catalog online from your home if necessary.
The local Literacy Council also plays an important part in the promotion of the facilities as well as providing services through the Lebanon – Laclede county library. They help individuals improve their reading, basic life skills, learn to speak and read English and even help with preparation for GED exams.
Quite a lot of the events and resources come from or are sponsored by the local group called “Friends of the Library”. These members actively pursue the promotion and development of the library and its resources as well as organize fundraising events to benefit the library.
